Dressing skill of grinding wheel
Sharpening is a process of sharpening the grains of a super hard grinding wheel. In this process, it is necessary to form a sharp cutting edge in addition to the binding agent between the grinding grains and the grinding grain of blunt grinding wheel, so that the grinding grains with strong grinding properties can be highlighted with the binding agent. Trimming must also remove tiny materials from the pores on the surface of the grinding wheel to prevent the increase of grinding force acting on the grinding wheel, which will cause vibration and burn on the surface of the parts.
Shaping can be said to be a part of the grinding wheel preparation work, which is carried out at the same time with the ordinary grinding wheel sharpening. For super hard abrasive grinding wheel, the two procedures are carried out separately. First, the grinding wheel is reshaped. In the process of grinding with super hard abrasive wheel, shaping is done with shaping tool or roller, and trimming is usually done with a dressing rod of ceramic binder. After shaping, the grinding wheel is sharpened.
It is important to keep the spindle bearing at a certain temperature before dressing the grinding wheel including shaping and sharpening. This prevents damage to the geometry of the parts and abnormal wear of the grinding wheel and dressing tool. Finishing tools must be handled with care as they are generally made of hard, wear resistant but very brittle diamond material and are very sensitive to minute cracks and breakage due to slight impact and stress.
Since the diamond shaper is itself a tool, it needs to be kept very sharp. Using a blunt dressing tool to trim the grinding wheel surface will blunt the grinding wheel. In order to maintain a high quality and sharp diamond dressing tool, 1/8 of a circle rotation of the dressing tool with a single point or cone tip is required at regular intervals. The number of rotation can be decided according to the dressing situation, according to experience, at least once a day rotation.
Most cylindrical grinders place parts and grinding wheels on a horizontal line. The highest point of the outer circle of the part and the outer circle of the grinding wheel is called the contact point of the part/grinding wheel. The dressing tool of diamond should be as close to the contact point of the part/grinding wheel as possible. For the grinding wheel of the internal cylindrical grinder, it is more important to dress the diamond dressing tool close to the highest point of the external circle of the grinding wheel.
